"Being a one man show, I've got to make things easy..."

"…Well I can’t ask for any easier"

Geoff decided to use VR Fergus and V Foske on his crossbreeds and D Sol, D Onside, S Ross and VH Bento on his Holsteins

Geoff Evans runs a 247h one man band dairy farm in Cobden, Western Victoria in Australia. He is milking 280 cows this season. Two years ago he used VikingGenetics for the first time as he was having fertility problems as well as feet & legs issues.

"We want a cow that is more functional and that suits our hilly farm", says Geoff. "The type of genetics we have been using is just not suiting our farm. We are now chasing a smaller, medium sized cow that carries her udder well and has good feet & legs".

Geoff decided to use VR Fergus and V Foske on his crossbreeds and D Sol, D Onside, S Ross and VH Bento on his Holsteins. Geoff has used 100% Viking Genetics in both the last two joinins and has two-year old Viking heifers calving this year. He has no milk in vat results yet, but has no doubt the results will be good.

"We chased S Ross and many other Viking sires for their high daughter fertility and superior health traits", Geoff reports.

Impressive growth of calves
"One thing I want to state is the impressive growth and strength of the calves. My dad is 80 years old and a good judge of cattle. He couldn’t believe how good the calves were in a tough autumn season. Before I go over the top about them, I want to have another year of VikingGenetics calves and prove to myself that it is the calves".

Geoff believes that having the information from the horse’s mouth so to speak about the growth rate of the calves goes a long way, and pays attention to the growth rate index on the Viking sires.

Geoff has had very little trouble with the last two calving seasons, having a big improvement with easy born calves. "The growth of the calves are the best I’ve had in 25 years of rearing calves. It could have been the season but they have good growth though".

Geoff’s experience with VikingGenetics has been a positive one so far, and he can’t see why it won’t stay that way! "Being a one man show I’ve got to make things easy…..well I can’t ask for any easier. The older I get the faster the calves seem to run each year", Geoff smiles

Geoff calves once a year in May and joins again in July. He plans to use 100% VikingGenetics again this joining season. VG Reds over cross breeds and VG Holstein over Holstein.

Geoff Evans is very happy with the growth of the calves by VG Sires. The best calves he had for 25 years.

Geoff Evans has used VR Fergus and V Föske on his crossbreeds and D Sol, D Onside, S Ross and VH Bento on his Holsteins.
